On Friday, the White House announced that the President intends to nominate Adam Klein to be a Member and the Chairman of the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board. If confirmed, Adam will join Beth Collins, who is currently the only member of the Board.
This is an important step. As a number of Lawfare contributors have argued, staffing the PCLOB will be especially critical in light of upcoming battles over 702 reauthorization and Privacy Shield. Adam is a truly excellent choice—he is thoughtful, serious, and deeply knowledgeable on the subject.
This is an important first step, but it is only the first. The President must now nominate the remaining members to fully staff the PCLOB so that it may return to its important work.
