Monday , March 7, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Africa Security Initiative at the Brookings Institution will host a webcast on the future of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Panelists will discuss the perpetual cycle of war, civil unrest and local feuds over power and identity in Congo, and why the peace deal of 2003 has failed to stop the violence. Monday, March 7, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.: The Brookings Institution will host a conversation with Joseph E. Stiglitz on AI, innovation and welfare. Stiglitz will sit down with Anton Korinnk, Brookings fellow, to discuss how to ensure innovation creates value and increases social welfare. They will examine types of innovation to avoid, how to steer technological advancement in a desirable direction for society and how to design a regulatory framework that pursues these objectives.
Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 9:00 a.m.: The Atlantic Council will host an online event on mainstreaming gender in security for International Women’s Day 2022. The event will feature a public conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, H.E. Ann Linde. Minister Linde will discuss how to mainstream a gender perspective across all areas of foreign and security policy.

The committee will hear testimony from Kristen Clarke, assistant attorney general at the Justice Department; Rabbi Charlie Cytron-Walker of the congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville Texas; Walter M. Kimbrough, president of Dillard University; Orlando Martinez, detective and hate crimes coordinator at the Los Angeles Police Department; Elan S. Carr, former special envoy to monitor and combat anti-semitism; and Maya Berry, co-chair of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights Hate Crimes Task Force.
Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 8:30 a.m.: The Center for East Asia Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution will host an event to examine Taiwan’s role in global supply chains. After welcoming remarks by Brookings Vice President Suzanne Maloney, Taiwan Minister without Portfolio John Deng will hold a keynote conversation with Brookings Senior Fellow Ryan Hass. Following their conversation, the event will feature a panel discussion on Taiwan’s role in global supply chains and opportunities for the United States. Panelists include: Brookings Senior Fellow Miryea Solís; Jason Hsu, senior research fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School; and Peter Cleveland, vice president of the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.

Friday, March 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m.: The Brookings Africa Growth Initiative will host a discussion on the leadership of African women and girls. After opening remarks from Brookings President John R. Allen, the panel discussion will reflect on the contributions of African women to the region’s development and explore the role of women in cabinets, parliaments, municipal governments, industry, academia and the health sector, as well as strategies for pursuing gender equality in political leadership, among other topics. Panelists include: Jamie Cooper, chair and president of Big Win Philanthropy; Winne Kiiza, former leader of opposition in the Ugandan parliament; Fiona Tregenna, professor of economics at the University of Johannesburg; Michelle Williams, dean of the faculty and professor at the Harvard T.H.
