Over the holidays the UN General Assembly formally adopted this year’s resolution on information security. The text, which mandates the creation of a new Group of Governmental Experts (GGE) for 2016-2017, had already been approved in the First Committee, the General Assembly’s specialized committee dealing with international security and disarmament. After budgetary considerations, the resolution has now been approved by the General Assembly and was issued last week. The new GGE will face a number of challenges as discussed in a previous post.
