FBI Director Christopher Wray testifed on Tuesday before the Senate Appropriations Committee about the Bureau's Fiscal 2020 budget. The questions covered a wide range of topics, including law enforcement and intelligence challenges, Russian interference in the 2020 election, the Mueller report and Attorney General Bill Barr's characterization of lawful surveillance during the 2016 campaign as "spying." It’s Time for Congress to Make Domestic Terrorism a Federal Crime

On Oct. 27, Robert Bowers launched an attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, Penn., murdering 11 worshipers and injuring many others. The federal indictment against Bowers charges him with multiple counts of obstructing, by force and threat of force, “the free exercise of religious beliefs” resulting in death and bodily injury and involving the use of a dangerous weapon and attempts to kill.

On Nov. 6, 2018—Election Day—the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a joint statement, along with the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice and the FBI, affirming their agencies' continued efforts to assist state and local election officials and to combat foreign influence efforts.

Peter Strzok’s ‘Insurance Policy’

I’m struck by the kerfuffle over text messages sent by FBI agent Peter Strzok to Lisa Page, an FBI lawyer with whom he was apparently having an affair. The messages bash Trump and seem to favor Clinton—for example, Strzok wrote, “God Hillary should win 100,000,000 - 0”—at a time when Strzok was directing the investigation of Clinton’s email server.
