Military Commissions Deputy Chief Prosecutor Robert C. Moscati issued this statement yesterday on developments in United States v. Ahmed Mohammed Ahmed Haza al-Darbi. Today's pre-sentencing hearing has been moved to the afternoon; Carol Rosenberg reports this is to accommodate Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats's visit to Guantanamo this morning.
In connection with attempted attacks against shipping vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and off the coast of Yemen, and a completed attack against the MV Limburg, al-Darbi is charged with conspiracy, attacking civilian objects, hazarding a vessel, terrorism, attempt, and aiding the enemy. He pleaded guilty to the charges in 2014 and agreed to delay his sentencing until this August in order to cooperate with the government. The docket is available on the Office of Military Commissions site.
