On Nov. 9, the Office of Special Counsel (OSC) released a report that concluded at least 13 senior Trump administration officials violated the Hatch Act by using their official authority to try to influence the 2020 election. While there were numerous violations of the Hatch Act throughout the Trump administration, the OSC took particular issue with the 2020 Republican National Convention held on White House grounds. Among the officials accused of illegally promoting Trump’s reelection on the job include former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, then-Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf and Trump’s senior counselor Kellyanne Conway.

The OSC concluded that although discipline is no longer possible since the officials have left office, it is issuing the report to “educate employees about Hatch Act-prohibited activities, highlight the enforcement challenges that OSC confronted during its investigations, and deter similar violations in the future.”
