New York State Judge Issues Order Preventing Trump Disclosures
In a May 8 court order, New York State Judge Juan Merchan ordered that materials provided to the legal team of former President Donald Trump “shall be used solely for the purposes of preparing a defense in that matter.” The order instructs members of the legal team not to “copy, disseminate, or disclose” materials to any third party uninvolved in Trump’s legal defense, which includes social media platforms. Trump himself is authorized to view materials designated as “limited dissemination” only in the presence of his defense attorney and “shall not be permitted to copy, photograph, transcribe, or otherwise independently possess” the materials.
Trump is currently facing 34 counts of felony falsification of business records, largely related to hush money payouts made to two women during and after the 2016 presidential election.
