The Justice Department announced on Dec. 21 that it has charged an alleged perpetrator of the 1988 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, that killed 270 people. The criminal complaint charges Abu Agila Mas’ud, a former Libyan intelligence officer, with helping make the bomb used in the attack. According to the affidavit, Mas’ud provided the suitcase with the prepared explosive that detonated. The announcement and unsealing of the charges comes exactly 32 years after the bombing, which is considered the second deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history.
