The Lawfare Podcast: Max Boot on ‘The Road Not Taken’
By Matthew Kahn
Though some have closed the book on those who loomed large during the Vietnam War, Max Boot has penned a new one. In “The Road Not Taken: Edward Lansdale and the American Tragedy in Vietnam,” Boot tells the story of Edward Lansdale, a military and intelligence adviser who offered an alternative approach to fighting the VietCong that emphasized statebuilding and limited military engagement. In a conversation with Benjamin Wittes at the Hoover Book Soiree on Feb. 28, Boot answered questions about the Lansdale’s complex life, his vision for Vietnam, and why he was different from Paul Manafort.
