U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton, in a lawsuit brought by Buzzfeed News and the digital privacy watchdog EPIC, rebuked Attorney General William Barr’s handling of the report by Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

The judge ruled that because of the Attorney General’s “lack of candor” he would conduct an independent review of Mueller’s full report in order to assess whether the Justice Department’s redactions were appropriate and determine what additional material must be released. He stated that “Attorney General Barr failed to provide a thorough representation of the findings set forth in the Mueller Report.”

Walton also wrote that “The court has grave concerns about the objectivity of the process that preceded the public release of the redacted version of the Mueller Report and its impacts on the Department’s subsequent justifications that its redactions of the Mueller Report are authorized by the FOIA.”
