The House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol released a report on Oct. 18 that seeks to hold Steve Bannon, one of former President Trump’s advisers, in contempt of Congress for failing to comply with a subpoena. The report outlines the committee’s efforts to get Bannon to comply and his failure to do so. Bannon informed the select committee last week that he would defy the subpoena, in accordance with a directive from Trump, who has urged Bannon and other former advisers to reject the committee’s requests, citing executive privilege.
The committee is expected to approve the report Tuesday evening. The report will then likely move to the House for a floor vote. If the vote succeeds, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will refer Bannon to the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia for prosecution.
