District Court Judge Overturns Bijan Rafiekian's Conviction
By Jacob Schulz
A judge in the District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia overturned the conviction of Bijan Rafiekian, Michael Flynn's partner in pro-Turkey lobbying. Rafiekian had been previously convicted on "one count of conspiracy in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 371; and one count of acting in the United States as an unregistered agent of a foreign government [18 U.S. Code § 951]." The judge held that "the evidence was insufficient as a matter of law for the jury to convict Rafiekian on either count." The opinion can be found here.
