Department of Justice Launches Task Force to Protect Election Officials

On June 25, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco issued a memorandum to all federal prosecutors and the director of the FBI reiterating the Department of Justice’s commitment to prosecuting threats against election officials. To better protect election officials and prosecute offenders amid a “rise in threats,” Monaco announced the creation of a Justice Department task force comprising members of the Criminal Division, the Civil Rights Division, the National Security Division and the FBI.
