Department of Defense Releases Unclassified 2022 National Defense Strategy
On Oct 27, the Department of Defense released its unclassified 2022 National Defense Strategy (NDS) to the public. The NDS is intended to outline how the Department of Defense will contribute to safeguard and advance “vital U.S. national interests.”
The NDS provides insight into the department’s defense priorities which include “defending the homeland” and “deterring strategic attacks against the United States, Allies, and partners.” It also provides an overview of the global security environment, the United States’s alliances and partnerships, the department’s force planning, risk management, and its approaches to advancing defense priorities. The NDS also includes the department’s 2022 Nuclear Posture Review, as well as the 2022 Missile Defense Review.
