On Feb. 16, 2022, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation and National Security Agency released a joint cybersecurity advisory detailing instances of “Russian state-sponsored cyber actors” targeting U.S. cleared defense contractors (CDC). The advisory specifies that, from at least Jan. 2020 through Feb. 2022, these cyber actors targeted both large and small CDCs working with the Department of the Defense “to acquire sensitive, unclassified information, as well as CDC-proprietary and export-controlled technology.” The advisory warns of continued intrusions and for all CDCs to apply the recommended mitigations.
