Amid all the fiscal cliff hubbub, the Senate on Friday approved, and President Obama on Sunday signed, the inelegantly if accurately named “FISA Amendments Act Reauthorization Act of 2012.”  The new law extends its predecessor, the FISA Amendments Act of 2008, for a period of five years.

You can find an enrolled copy of the new bill — which the House passed in September — here, along with a two-volume House report.  The Washington Post’s Ellen Nakashima also filed this story about the Senate debate, including Senator Ron Wyden’s efforts to conduct inquire into possible warrantless monitoring of Americans’ phone calls or emails.
