Yesterday it was a train crash and the resulting internet service outage. Today it’s an impending storm. But it looks like we have another postponement in the Monster Motions Hearings. Word on the street is that Guantanamo is battening down the hatches for the arrival of Tropical Storm Isaac and that the hearing is therefore kaput for the time being.
The Office of Military Commissions web site says:
Military Commission – KSM et al.
On August 22, 2012, due to the imminent weather threat from Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac, which is predicted to directly impact Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, in the next 48-72 hours, the scheduled hearings have been canceled by the Military Judge.
Military Judge Pohl’s order reads:
Based upon impending weather conditions, the recommendation that all non-permanent party personnel depart the island, and a concern for the safety and welfare of all personnel, the sessions scheduled to begin on 23 August are hereby cancelled.
A new docketing order setting the next sessions in this case will be forthcoming.
So Ordered this 22nd day of August 2012.
